Breast Implant Revision

Many women across the country seek breast implant revision every year. No matter how carefully the surgery is planned, how many pre-operative consultations are held, or how thorough the post-operative instructions are followed, thousands of women seek improved satisfaction with the overall results of their augmentation surgery. Since there are so many physicians, types of procedures, and types of implants available, it is important for the patient to thoroughly research all options in order to make the best decision for their health and overall goals.

One of the most common reasons women seek a revision is due to deflation and loss of overall size or shape. This can be due to a number of different reasons, and dangerous causes of saline or silicone leakage should be ruled out before breast revision surgery is planned. Other women experience life events and body changes such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, or massive weight gain or loss that can affect the overall results of their initial augmentation surgery. In these cases, revising the initial results may be necessary to provide the desired outcome.

There are a number of conditions that merit breast implant revision. Women are encouraged to visit with a board-certified plastic surgeon of their choice if they have experienced deflation, signs suggesting a silicone leak, tightening of skin as it heals around the scar tissue, a change in overall alignment, or excessive skin stretch. The plastic surgeon will review all options available and help the patient make informed decisions that fit with their overall health, initial surgery, and realistic expectations.

In some cases, women that choose to have very large implants placed at the time of their initial surgery may later decide that less is actually more. Or a patient may decided she would like to increase the site of her implant. In these situations, the plastic surgeon can discuss revising the initial surgery with smaller or larger saline or silicone products and an overall lift that will improve the final appearance and shape. Many women find they are much happier with a different implant size after their breast implant revision and enjoy the benefits of their re-augmentation for many more years to come.

The Summer of Breast Augmentation

Perhaps unsurprisingly, plastic surgeons across the world see an uptick in the number of women coming into their offices as summer approaches. As it is with the gym and with diet book sales, people realize that summer is just around the country and they begin thinking about how they will look in that bikini. This leads many women to think not only about doing a few extra crunches and skipping the pie after dinner, but indeed about breast augmentation to help fill out that top just a bit better.

This is more than simply anecdotal evidence, however. Researchers in Britain recently completed a survey of over 3,000 women, which helped to shed a great deal of light on many of the insecurities they experience as the summer bathing season arrives. Nearly 75 percent of the women expressed some degree of worry when it came to putting on their bathing suits for the first time and stepping out onto the beach. While this does not directly correlate with increased breast enhancement surgery, it is easy to see that the season causes quite a bit of self-discontent across the globe.

While women choose to get breast augmentation for a number of reasons, self esteem is typically high on that list. In summer, both men and women are put in situations where they can no longer hide their bodies underneath flattering clothes if they want to experience the fun of the beach and other outdoor activities. Breast enhancement and other cosmetic surgeries can help give women the confidence they need to shed those clothes without a lot of worry.

The Most Popular Plastic Surgery Procedures

Find out which plastic surgery procedures are the most popular. Learn about different plastic surgery procedures.

Plastic surgery is becoming more common because people want to look as good as they can for as long as possible. While females have predominantly become the ones who have sought after surgeries to enhance their appearance, men are catching onto the wonderful benefits of having plastic surgery work done on their bodies and faces.

The most popular plastic surgery operation is breast augmentation. Women do not have to live with a small bosom anymore. Breast implants are durable and they can increase the size of a woman's breasts. Berast implants are made from a silicone shell and they contain saline or silicone gel. Implants are available in small, large, and extra large sizes. At your consultation, you can discuss your goals with a plastic surgeon.

Liposuction is another popular plastic surgery procedure and it can help you remove the extra fat from your body. Liposuction can be performed on many areas of the body such as the chin, arms, tummy, thighs, calves, and buttocks. Many individuals turn to liposuction when their healthy diets and exercise habits haven't made it possible for them to lose weight.

Rhinoplasty has made it possible for men and women to change the look, size, and shape of their noses. If you're not happy with your nose, a plastic surgeon can reshape it to create a desirable look.

The tummy tuck procedure is also very popular with both men and women. This procedure is used to remove the excess fat and skin from the abdominal area. This procedure can also tighten your tummy. The best candidates for a tummy tuck are people who are in decent shape, but are concerned about the extra fat or skin on their stomachs. This procedure is an excellent option for older people, women who have had childrem, and individuals who have lost a lot of weight on their own or through weight loss surgery. If you're considering any plastic surgery procedure, make sure you find a trustworthy, board-certified and experienced plastic surgeon.

Does Your Obstetrician offer Breast Augmentation?

Men and women looking for information on plastic surgery should read a recent article written by Dr. Patti Flint. This Scottsdale plastic surgeon explains physician accreditation with the American Board of Medical Specialties and how not all plastic surgeons are created equal. While it can be confusing for patients, it is important to learn about your physician’s training and experience. Potential patients seeking qualified doctors for their elective cosmetic surgery should be sure to research their options and keep a few key points in mind.

Dr. Flint reminds readers that state medical licensure does not limit a physician to practicing a particular specialty. For example, just because an obstetrician completed medical school with honors, it does not mean he or she is going to be very good at breast augmentation. If you are interested in getting the best results from a particular cosmetic surgery, ensure that the doctor performing the surgery is accredited in that field and has several years of experience. Both of those criteria will go a long way to ensuring you are happy with the post-operative recovery right after the surgery and maintenance of results for years to come.

Alternatively, selecting a physician that is licensed in a non-surgical field or doesn’t have extensive experience in the procedure you are interested in, may result in dangerous side effects, poor wound healing, or even irregular or asymmetrical results. For patients in Scottsdale, plastic surgery a little research and learning goes a long way. Invest your time before you invest your money.

Breast Augmentation Surgery: Getting Started

Today you can change any part of yourself that you don't like from your feet to your face. The most popular plastic surgery today is female breast augmentation. Most women want this surgery so that they can look and feel more feminine.

Some women are just naturally small breasted. Some have gone through childbirth and nursing has left their breasts deflated. Other women have mismatched breasts (one noticeably larger than the other). Whatever the reason breast augmentation surgery can give women the look and self confidence they desire.

The first step in breast augmentation surgery is selecting your doctor. The most important thing is board certification. Make sure the doctor you selected is board certified in plastic surgery, not some other medical specialty. Ask others who've had surgery who they've used and if they're happy with the result.

The next step involves consultation with the doctors you've chosen. You want to meet several surgeons to be sure that there is someone that you feel comfortable enough with to entrust with your surgery. Communication is very important in a doctor/patient relationship and you need to feel that the surgeon understands your wishes and can allow you to at ease with the process. Often part of the consultation process involves "trying on" your new breast implants. This can achieved with a special bra or through a computer simulation. Both methods allow you to try different size implants and with photography you can compare your before/after photos along with comparing different sizes. Patient often describe this as the most exciting part of the process.

Once you've selected your surgeon, the office will schedule your surgery. You should be prepared to take 1-2 weeks to recuperate after your breast augmentation. Recovery is different for everyone but generally if you have a non-physical job you can return 7-10 days after surgery. The decision to have plastic surgery is very personal. But once your doctor has given the okay to resume your normal activities, you can enjoy your curvier figure and shop for new clothes with more confidence and pride.

What Do Gummy Bears Have To Do With Breasts!?

When you think "gummy bear," you probably imagine a little candy snack that squishes in your mouth. Well, there's a new kind of gummy bear, and it's designed for your breasts. Introducing, "gummy bear breast implants."

That's not the technical name, of course. They are called "cohesive gel" implants, and they are a variation on traditional silicone and saline implants. The reason they are called "gummy bears" is because they feel like the popular candy when you squeeze them.

These cohesive gel implants hold lots of promise. Breast implants are quite safe these days, but we all know that a rupture or leakage could cause major problems. Gummy bears are made tougher, so they are less likely to break. Even though they are stronger, they are just as flexible as silicone implants. This means that they give you a natural feel.

Not every plastic surgery clinic offers gummy bears yet. They are still new and in the experimental stages. But, these new implants could one day take the breast augmentation world by storm. Lots of women are now "going gummy" and getting cohesive gel implants as an alternative to silicone and saline.

Sculpted Breast Augmentation for Better Contour

Though breast augmentation offers a high level of patient satisfaction, there's always a little tweaking to be done to create optimal results. Bakersfield breast enhancement surgeon Dr. Marc Lussier noticed a problem with contour in many of his breast augmentation patients and decided to do a little tweaking of his own, developing a sculpted breast augmentation technique.

"I became aware of a difficult area between the breast and the upper arm, including the bra strap fat along the chest wall. Women know this spot hiding underneath the arm. It looks like a roll that extends from the breast, along the chest wall and underneath the arm..."

Dr. Lussier now uses liposuction to remove this area of unwanted fat creating a better contour in many of his breast augmentation patients. By removing this problem area of fat, the liposuction combined with the breast augmentation create a shapelier, more feminine look.

Fat Injections for Breast Augmentation Iffy

At the upcoming conference of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons a panel will discuss the effectiveness and safety of fat injections in breast tissue.

Studies have shown that fat injections do show promise in breast reconstruction, but their effectiveness and safety in breast augmentation has not shown to be as positive.

According to Dr.Gregory Scott, co-author of a study on fat injections to be presented at the ASPS conference, "My reconstruction patients could not be happier with the improvement fat transfer gives to the appearance of their breasts. The initial implant reconstruction sometimes leaves them with contour deformities or wrinkling, but fat injections can correct these problems and give their breasts a smoother, softer, more natural appearance."

Fat injection used in breast augmentation, on the other hand, is much more controversial. In reconstruction, fat is not injected into breast tissue the breast tissue is removed during mastectomy. In augmentation, fat is injected into breast tissue, which brings issues of safety and effectiveness into question. One reason for the controversy is that fat sometimes calcifies in the breast, which can cause problems during mammograms and be mistaken for cancerous growths. Another problem is that no one knows how just much fat is required to enlarge is breast satisfactorily. So far, breast augmentation using fat transfer has been required a lot of surgical time without a satisfactory level of enhancement.

Fat transfer is being studied for a variety of cosmetic procedures, including lip augmentation, and wrinkle reduction as well as breast reconstruction and augmentation.
